A message from our President:

Hi! I’m Megan and I’m a 3rd year Systems Engineering student and the president of Warwick Mixed Hockey Club for the 2025/26 academic year.
I joined Mixed during Freshers Week in first year, and honestly it has been the best part of my university experience so far! I’ve met so many truly amazing people through the club; everyone is genuinely lovely and we really do feel like one big family. I’ve been playing hockey for around 7 years, previously only playing women's club hockey, but Mixed has been where I've seen the biggest improvements in my skills. Playing this different style of hockey has made me better at tackling, positional awareness, confidence in my ability to do skills, and even led to me learning to dragflick in 2nd year. At UWMXDHC we cater for all levels of hockey, whether it's your first time picking up a stick, or if you've played your whole life. We have plenty of matches throughout the year, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved. On Sundays we either have friendlies against other unis, or fixtures as part of our local Universities League. But for the extra competitive among you, we also enter the England Mixed Hockey Championship; these are often our toughest games as this competition involves all the Mixed teams in the country. This is nothing to be scared of though, being a part of our EH squad has been one of my highlights when it comes to the hockey we play at Mixed. We also regularly organise friendlies and charity matches to give our newer players more experience as well as the confidence to play competitively in future. In fact, in recent years, many members who started out as beginners have grown so much in skill and confidence they have been winning 'Player of The Match' in our league fixtures! UWMXDHC is more to us than just hockey, the club hosts and participates in numerous charity events and tournaments throughout the year. Most notably, we host "Tournamental" for all the teams in our league to raise money for charity, as well as having frequent charity circles, challenges, pledges and often raising money through crazy (voluntary) charity acts done by our members (Kairav, what will you do to your hair this year?). Not only that but as one of the largest clubs on campus we host some of the best socials, including circles (a Warwick tradition), sober socials (bowling, mini golf, club meals, games night, movie nights etc.) across the year, something you won’t want to miss out on! Mixed really is the best part of being at Warwick for me. Whether you love the game, or just love the socials, we’d love to have you as part of our family! Megan Rowley - President 25/26 |
