Here at Warwick Mixed Hockey Club, we want to give our members a chance to improve their hockey ability in an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere. Given the range of abilities we have in the club (from never having picked up a stick before to sponsored players), we make sure each session has elements everyone can engage with. We split our training sessions into different groups based on ability and confidence, so everybody can be comfortable and engaged. We also have a good combination of competitive and friendly matches – whether you are a casual or competitive player, we have something for you.
Two sessions a week are run by our Training Secretaries, where we practice new drills and have friendly match play. The other session is run by an external coach, giving our members professional training by a qualified coach.
Hockey sticks can be provided; however, we recommend having a decent pair of astros or trainers, some shin pads and a mouth guard if you want to play competitively for us!
We run free taster sessions at the start of term 1 and term 2, which everyone is welcome to attend. Keep an eye out on the club's social media at the start of each academic year for more info!

Commitment to UWMXDHC
Unlike most other university sports teams, we do not require mandatory attendance at our training sessions. We understand that that university life often demands other commitments alongside studies, so there is no pressure to attend every training session.
Furthermore, attendance is not obligatory for playing in league matches; match squads are picked on a 'game by game' basis - everyone can sign up to play in a match, irrespective of training attendance or ability. We encourage everyone to play! If you have any further questions on matches, feel free to contact our club captain Jono Griffiths. |
UWMXDHC has no trials or initiations
We make sure there is something for everyone in our social timetable. Most weeks you can find us at the SU’s club night Pop!, where we dress in quirky costumes and ‘circle’ in The Copper Rooms. Circling is a Warwick University tradition and important to us here at UWMXDHC. We can’t give too much away before you join us, so make sure to come along to one of our more relaxed Sunday circles at the start of term 1, or any circle throughout the year.
Drinking not your thing? Not to worry, we have a whole host of sober socials planned throughout the year. In previous years, we have hosted events such as club dinners, paint-balling, trampoline parks and water parks!
