Mixed Hockey’s Charity Values
Supporting charities and giving back to the community is a huge part of Mixed Hockey. We engage with the local area through fundraising money, donating time and raising awareness of local – as well as [inter]national – campaigns and initiatives.
Each year, as well as annual events (such as our Summer Charity Challenge and Charities Week in term 2), we plan a range of charity and community activities. We have climbed mountains, taught hockey in local schools and hosted a Mario Kart tournament on the Piazza!

Our Club's Charity:
This year, we are proud to say that we are supporting Coventry Haven, a local Women's Aid charity!
Coventry Haven provides aid and support to women and children in controlling, violent and dangerous life situations, protecting the community and offering better opportunities for those who need them.
Working in association with Coventry Haven, our charity work will focus on:
~ Raising Awareness on campus, in Leamington and Coventry, and on social media to start a vital conversation about how we can recognise abuse in a relationship and promoting the better alternative of a loving and supportive relationship. ~ Fundraising through a variety of fun events which encourage people to get involved with charity work as well as help to maintain the services that Coventry Haven provide. ~ Giving Back to the Community through our work teaching hockey in schools and youth centres in the local area. ~ Encouraging women and others to be happy and confident by promoting non-judgemental involvement in sport and all that our club does. |

The 2022/23 year was our most successful in terms of fundraising. We started with our annual summer challenge, involving us going caving! We participated in Movember, beating our previous fundraising record for the charity. Throughout the year we’ve hosted numerous events, including January challenges, exec challenges, a casino night, skill swaps with tennis & mixed netball, as well as a few quizzes. This year we transformed our annual ‘tournamental’ event into a charity one which raised £500 for our chosen charity.
We have also worked with our NGB England Hockey and Access Sport UK to introduce Flyerz Hockey, disability inclusive training, being the first University club in the UK to implement this.
Across the academic year we have raised awareness of a variety of campaigns, including Black History Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, International Women’s Day and University Mental Health Day.
Our Charities Sec, Jenna, did a fab job of running many different charity and volunteering events throughout the year, helping to make fundraising this year a massive success!
