Charity total - £2378
Coventry Haven - £1,408.91
Other charities (Movember and LWS Night Shelter) - £970
This term at UWMXDHC we have well and truly immersed ourselves into charitable endeavours. Before term started a group of us took on a sponsored Snowdon climb and got us off to a great start for our charity Coventry Haven raising £876!
As term began, returners made the most of the last tendrils of summer and turned our hands to gardening, volunteering for Age UK at the Campion School by doing some community gardening to help create a space for elderly people with dementia as well as the eco-club at the school.
Week 5 rolled around and we decided to spice our fundraising up a bit by hosting a charity MarioKart tournament on the Big Screen! Playing from Terrace Bar, we invited anyone and everyone to come and donate £2 to have a race for charity. It was slightly surreal experience but everyone had a blast and we raised £207!
Next we fancied a bit more volunteering, this time for LWS Night Shelter, and a few of us took to the night and organised a cloakroom for Bootsncats at Zephyr Lounge, raising £60!
As November rolled around, the challenge of Movember to raise money for men’s health was irresistible for 4 of our boys. Tommy, Sarban, Nick and Luke blew expectations out of the water, running very impressive social media campaigns and proving that social media fundraising is powerful! The 4 of them alone raised an unbelievable £910, placing the Mixed Hockey team 5th in the Warwick rankings. Special mention to Tommy for raising £424 alone and placing 2nd in the individual Warwick rankings!!!!
Our last fundraising event of the term came in the form of our beloved Old Boys Freshers Pledges. Shoutout to the 7 brave freshers - Holly, Tom, Oli, Joe, Eve, Kat and Oscar who put forth embarrassing stories and beautiful smiles to be bidded for the services they’ve pledged by the returning Old Boys to be their Bar Bitches or Caddies. Massive thanks to the Old Boys who came prepared to donate - amazing total of £324!
Our final effort of the term was in the form of canned goods and non-perishables - a very heavy bag for life of which our freshers donated to the Great Give Warwick drive for surrounding homeless charities. Thanks to the generous freshers for that!
I am so proud of everyone’s efforts and passion this term for charity and can’t wait to keep organising some funky events for people to get stuck into next term! To give you a flavour - we’re doing a January ‘Give Up’ Challenge, our annual Charity Pub Quiz, a charity collab week with Mixed Netball and Mixed Lacrosse, a charity Karaoke / Open Mic night, and an awareness campaign for Coventry Haven!
